About the Commissioned Artist: Greg Sobran was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts in 1947, where his father was a tool designer and engineer. His family moved to Michigan a few years later where he attended public schools. His mother painted portraits professionally and she taught him perspective and color basics from a young age. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. His oil painting professor, David Sharp encouraged him to pain "en plein air" long before its recent re-popularization. After college, Greg did freelance commercial art for a living while continuing to paint outdoors as a hobby. He did this for twenty years with a brief stint operating a cabinet shop and doing custom woodworking. Circumstances lead him to taking the summer off to travel and paint in 1989, and he has made a living from painting since then. He now gravels and paints almost constantly, with brief periods spent in his studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan. See Greg's work at www.sobrangalleries.com
