Allen Meadows ("Burghound") History
Allen Meadows had a successful 21-year career in finance, where he held several key positions, including senior vice-president and director of corporate development for Great Western Financial. In 1999, Meadows decided to retire from finance to pursue his passion for wine, specifically Burgundy. Initially intending to write a book about the region, he soon changed course and founded Burghound.com in 2000, a quarterly publication focused exclusively on Burgundy and Pinot Noir, with occasional coverage of Champagne and Sparkling Wines.
Burghound.com was the first platform to provide specialized and comprehensive coverage of Burgundy, offering detailed and exhaustive assessments of wines from the region. The inaugural issue was released in January 2001, and since then, the publication has gained a global readership with subscribers in over 64 countries and nearly every state in the U.S. Meadows spends nearly six months each year in Burgundy, visiting more than 300 domaines to maintain his deep connection with the region.
In 2011, Meadows was joined by his son, Chris Meadows, who became a business partner. Together with Erica Meadows, Allen’s wife and business partner, they manage all aspects of Burghound.com, continuing to provide invaluable insights to Burgundy enthusiasts and collectors worldwide. Through this dedicated work, Meadows has established himself as one of the leading authorities on Burgundy wines.
