Jane Anson History
Jane Anson has been living in Bordeaux since 2003 and is a renowned author and wine journalist. Her notable works include Inside Bordeaux (BB&R Press, 2020), which was hailed as a "category buster" by Wine Anorak and called "the Bordeaux bible" by Le Figaro. She has also authored Haut-Bailly (First Press Editions, 2021), Wine Revolution (Quarto, 2017), and Bordeaux Legends (Stewart, Tabori & Chang, 2013), among others. In 2021, Anson made history by becoming the only journalist to taste a bottle of Petrus that spent 14 months orbiting Earth on the International Space Station.
Anson has won numerous awards for her writing, including Louis Roederer Wine Online Communicator of the Year (2020) and the IWSC 2023 Wine Communicator Trophy. In February 2024, she was awarded a V d'Or in Best Education and Knowledge Sharing for co-founding Bordeaux Mentor Week, a charity initiative aimed at supporting the next generation of the wine industry and promoting diversity and inclusion.
Anson’s contributions to wine knowledge extend beyond her books and journalism. She became the first woman to deliver the André Simon lecture for the International Wine and Food Society in 2020. After nearly 20 years as Bordeaux correspondent and columnist for Decanter, Anson launched her own website. She is a graduate of the DUAD tasting diploma with the Bordeaux Institute of Oenology and an accredited wine teacher at the Bordeaux Ecole du Vin.
