About the Scores:

Wines that do not meet a minimum quality threshold are not rated, marked as "NR" (Not Rated).

96-100 Points:

Exceptional

90-95 Points:

Very Good to Excellent
A wine with strong characteristics, excellent structure, and notable distinction. A well-crafted selection offering high quality.
85-89 Points:

Above Average
A solid, well-made wine that is enjoyable and of commendable quality.
80-84 Points:

Average
A standard, well-made wine that is enjoyable, but lacking the remarkable qualities of the higher scoring wines.

Bob Cambelle, MW History

Bob Campbell is a distinguished figure in the wine world, holding the Master of Wine qualification, a title achieved by a select group globally. He established The Wine Gallery in Auckland in 1990, becoming a leading wine educator in New Zealand. His educational influence extends beyond New Zealand, with over 22,000 individuals participating in his wine courses and seminars across Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, and London. He currently imparts New Zealand Level Two Wine Certificate knowledge in China and Hong Kong, collaborating with NZ Winegrowers.  

Beyond education, he contributes significantly to wine writing and public speaking. He serves as New Zealand editor for Gourmet Traveller Wine and wine editor for numerous publications, including Your Home & Garden, Taste magazine, and Air NZ’s Kia Ora. His authorship includes "The New Zealand Wine Annual" and contributions to prestigious publications like Decanter and The Oxford Companion to Wine.  

His expertise is recognized through numerous accolades, including Columnist of the Year awards from the Magazine Publishers Association and the Sir George Fistonich medal. He holds prominent judging positions, including chairman of judges at the NZ International Wine Show and the New Zealand section of the Decanter World Wine Awards. His judging experience spans continents, encompassing Australia, England, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Africa, Belgium, Canada, China, Slovenia, the US, and France.  

His industry involvement includes leadership roles in organizations like Hawkes Bay Vintners and Winemakers of West Auckland.

His wine career began with Montana Wines in 1973, transitioning from accounting to marketing and management before establishing his own business in 1986.
